August is a great month to celebrate the people, businesses and activities that make our community special. From visiting a local farmers market or bakery to enjoying the final weeks of summer, there are plenty of ways to shop local and connect with our neighbors.

National Farmers Market Week is August 2-8, making this a great time to recognize local farmers, vendors, restaurants and small-business owners. August also includes several fun food celebrations, including National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, National Soft Ice Cream Day and National Sponge Cake Day. Consider supporting a local bakery, ice cream shop or restaurant while enjoying one of these celebrations.

For those spending time outdoors, National UTV Day on August 18 is a helpful reminder to review protection for UTVs, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, trailers and other vehicles used for summer adventures.

We also celebrate National Dog Day on August 26. It is a great opportunity to recognize the pets we love and the local veterinarians, groomers, shelters and pet businesses that help care for them.
